Anders Zorn
Anders Zorn was born in 1860 in Mora, Sweden, and became one of the most celebrated portrait painters of his time. Trained at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts, he quickly gained international recognition for his technical brilliance. Zorn is known for his confident brushwork, masterful handling of light, and limited yet expressive color palette. His portraits capture both physical likeness and psychological presence.
In addition to portraiture, Zorn painted genre scenes, landscapes, and nudes, often inspired by Swedish rural life. He worked extensively in watercolor as well as oil, pushing the boundaries of both media. Zorn traveled widely and painted many prominent figures across Europe and the United States. Despite global success, he remained deeply connected to his hometown of Mora. He died in 1920. Today, Zorn is admired for his virtuosity and lasting influence on realist painting.
