Andreas Achenbach was born in 1815 in Kassel, Germany, and became one of the leading landscape painters of the 19th century. He is closely associated with the Düsseldorf School of painting, which emphasized dramatic composition and technical precision. Achenbach is best known for his powerful seascapes and landscapes depicting storms, shipwrecks, and rugged coastlines. His works convey a strong sense of movement and natural force.

Achenbach traveled widely across Europe, drawing inspiration from coastal regions and mountainous terrain. His paintings combine careful observation with theatrical lighting and atmosphere. During his lifetime, he achieved significant success and was widely exhibited. He also played an important role as a teacher and influence within the Düsseldorf Academy. Achenbach died in 1910. His art remains admired for its dramatic realism and mastery of landscape painting.
