Bernardo Strozzi
Bernardo Strozzi was born in 1581 in Genoa, Italy, and became one of the most important painters of the early Baroque period. He was trained in the late Mannerist tradition but soon embraced a more naturalistic and expressive style. Strozzi is known for his rich use of color, dynamic brushwork, and strong emotional presence. His paintings often depict religious scenes, portraits, and genre subjects.
Originally a Capuchin monk, Strozzi eventually left the order to pursue his artistic career more freely. His work shows the influence of Venetian painting, particularly in its warmth and painterly freedom. Strozzi worked primarily in Genoa and later in Venice, where his style continued to evolve. He enjoyed considerable success and recognition during his lifetime. Bernardo Strozzi died in 1644. His art played a key role in the development of Baroque painting in northern Italy.
