Leickert is best known for his detailed scenes of frozen canals, snow-covered villages, and figures skating on ice. His work captures the crisp atmosphere and subtle light of winter.

Influenced by the Dutch landscape tradition, Leickert combined careful observation with lively narrative detail. He paid particular attention to reflections, texture, and the effects of cold light on architecture and sky. His paintings were popular with collectors and widely exhibited during his lifetime.
