Elias van den Broeck
Elias van den Broeck was born in 1650 in Amsterdam and became a notable painter of floral still lifes during the Dutch Golden Age. He studied under Jan Davidsz. de Heem, whose influence is visible in his refined compositions and attention to detail. Van den Broeck is best known for richly colored bouquets arranged against dark backgrounds. His paintings often feature insects, leaves, and subtle signs of decay alongside blooming flowers.
His work combines decorative beauty with symbolic meaning, reflecting themes of transience and the passing of time. Van den Broeck later worked in Antwerp, where he absorbed elements of Flemish still life traditions. He carefully balanced light, texture, and contrast to create vivid and lifelike arrangements. Though not as widely known as some of his contemporaries, his paintings were appreciated by collectors. He died in 1708. Today, his art is valued for its technical skill and expressive detail within the still life genre.
